An old military mortar found by metal detecting enthusiasts in a field near the River Ribble has been detonated.
Preston Police received a call at 4.02pm on Saturday once the mortar had been found.
The three inch device triggered the callout of the bomb squad and police cordoned off Avenham Park and the area around the Old Tram Bridge.
Shortly after 7.30pm the mortar was detonated by army experts in a controlled explosion. Police lifted cordons around 8pm.
This is the tail fin of the mortar device found in the fields along the Ribble.
