The special school has 28 pupils from across the city and surrounding area.

Headteacher Ruth Bonney said: “We are delighted to have been officially recognised by Ofsted as an outstanding school once more.

“We offer a high standard of education already, but despite this we are continually looking at ways to improve.

“Our school meets the needs of pupils with a hearing impairment and also with special educational needs. We have a strong focus on leadership and treat every pupil as an individual, ensuring they have an equal opportunity to succeed, whatever their needs and background.

“Our pupils are happy and confident in a supportive environment and they make fantastic progress from their different starting points.

“We won’t be resting on our laurels, though. The inspectors made a suggestion and we’ve taken this on board.”

The school focuses on five to 11 year olds and is the only school in Lancashire for deaf children and children with speech and language issues.

Bob Stott, Lancashire County Council’s Director of Children’s Services, said:” The teachers, teaching assistants and health professionals at the school form a highly skilled and totally committed team.

“The quality of teaching is superb with the pupils making outstanding progress as a result.

“The pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. The school’s stimulating environment motivates pupils to want to learn and they have an excellent attitude to studying.

“I’d like to thank everyone at the school on this well-deserved achievement. They have made us very proud of them.”
