Preston Minster presents ‘A trip down memory lane’, a concert, including afternoon tea, with TV & radio vocalist Barry Stott singing the songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Elvis and many more. All the proceeds from the concert will be in aid of much needed funds for the parish.
Barry is a retired Blackpool optician and gives all his concerts free of charge. He started singing around Barrow workingmen’s clubs when he was a toddler.
His family left Barrow soon afterwards for the Blackpool area and Barry went to Manchester University. One evening he went to call on friends at a Blackpool theatre and there was a pop group on the bill, the 4 HY-FYS (read as Four Hi-Fi’s). Their lead singer was about to quit so Barry auditioned and was asked to join them. They were hugely successful with gigs at the Central Pier, Blackpool, Leeds City Varieties, the Floral Hall, Southport and BBC Radio and guest slots on the popular radio show Here We Go with the NDO (Northern Dance Orchestra)
