A Preston school has signalled the launch of this year’s SPAR Lancashire School Games.
AdvertisementSt Andrew’s Church of England primary school in Ashton-on-Ribble held the opening event of the sports event.
It sees thousands of children compete to book their place in the summer finals held at Stanley Park in Blackpool.
Children compete in sports including gymnastics, handball, football, netball, rounders, athletics, tennis and tag rugby.
Dean Brandwood, school games organiser for Preston, who helped to arrange the event, said: “Youngsters across Preston are already training hard to compete in the qualifiers which will determine who will make it through to the county finals.
“Each year the event provides an exciting and inclusive competitive platform.”
One Preston school – Harris Primary – has already booked their place in the summer finals.
Their girl’s football team will represent the city in the county finals after winning the Preston leg of the School Games.
James Hall & Company Limited sponsor the School Games and have done so since 2006.
Peter Dodding, sales and marketing director from James Hall & Company Ltd, said: “The school games programme is a series of spectacular events and excitement is certainly building for the county finals this year here in Preston.
