Georgina Biggs, known as Gina to her friends, is absolutely fanatical about running. Recently she has started on a project involving running a fifteen race marathon over 2015 for the Heartbeat charity and has already completed her first one, the Liverpool Liverbird Double, on 1 January 2015 and is set to do another fourteen races during 2015.Advertisement
When we asked Gina what was it that inspired her to do these grueling challenges she said “I got into the fitness side of things after being asked to try a fitness class, it’s all gone on from there and I saw a race that looked good in 2012, it was the Preston Guild half marathon; I’d done no training, just wanted to try it. “I wasn’t happy with my first time so I found another race; then the idea of a full marathon was suggested. “Signed up for my very first in December 2013 and the joy a simple run makes is fantastic, it can make a bad day into a good day. “After that, the races kept coming up, doing 9 marathons in 2014. “I ran one for heartbeat in 2014, but the idea to run 15 for them came about a few months back. “The perfect time was in 2015 so I just went for it; however, it was a challenge finding the races. “I was sitting on the sofa watching London marathon and that was the inspiration, seeing everyone out, some in costumes, some raising money, some doing it for fun… wanted to see how it felt to truly do something challenging”.
Gina will be training tirelessly almost every day to meet the challenges to come. Her race schedule is not one to take on so easily and it would be a daunting task for most trained sports persons to undertake. With the first one under her belt she will be attempting each race throughout the year until the final one which is being held on the 31 December 2015, to achieve her marathon goal.
The race schedule is as follows:
Liverbird 1/1/15 – 6 hours 53 minutes (Completed)
Newcastle racecourse ultra (30 miles!!) 25/1/15
Bolton hill 6/6/15
Hell of a hill day 1 11/11/15
Hell of a hill day 2 12/11/15
Hell of a hill day 5 15/11/15
Dublin – TBA
