The 32 year old man was delivering food to an address on Sycamore Road, Ribbleton, at 10.15pm when he was approached by a number of men.

They made racist remarks to him according to Lancashire Police and when the driver got back into his car one of the men opened the car door and punched the victim in the side of his face.

As the victim got out of the car he was attacked from behind by a number of other offenders, who punched him to the ground and kicked him.

Police say cash was taken from the delivery driver’s pocket during the attacked. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.

The man who punched the victim in the car is described as white, aged approximately 20 years old, of a slim build with cropped hair. At the time he was wearing dark clothing including a hooded top and a hat.

DC Will Hogan of South CID said: “This was a nasty attack on a man who was simply doing his job and it appears to have been racially aggravated. I would appeal to anybody who witnessed what happened or has any information that could assist with our investigation to contact us.”
