At 12.00 noon on Saturday morning 13 December 2014 the Winter Wonderland event was opened on Preston’s Flag Market leading up to Christmas time. For those in the mood for winter activities there is a fabulous ice skating rink alongside a great many log cabins hosting various retail outlets for seasonal foods, fancy goods and many other seasonal goodies to delight everyone.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Preston Councillor Nick Pomfret and his wife Barbara were on hand to officially open the event, along with the well known Irish comedian Jimmy “come here, there’s more” Cricket who is starring at the Guild Hall in the Christmas Panto, Snow White. During the day a talented young ice skater from the Blackpool Ice Drome Charities Association gave a spectacular skating demonstration at the ice rink showing everyone the real way to ice skate.

Other features of the market are the Merry Monk Tavern, where you can find something to warm the cockles of your heart, whether it is a hot mulled wine or a hot chocolate, you will be sure to enjoy it. You can also see some incredible owls from the Turbary Woods Owl & Bird of Prey Sanctuary, maybe hold one if you like or even go for a thrill on the special Snowman Ride simulator and experience the flight of the Snowman for yourself.
