Shoppers will be kissing their steering wheels in relief as roadworks at Deepdale Retail Park have been finished.
AdvertisementLancashire County Council came under mounting pressure after the roadworks overran causing gridlock both in and outside the retail park.
Christmas shoppers were left with delays of more than an hour in trying to escape from the retail park.
Costing £500,000 the roadworks were paid for by the owners of the retail park as it expands and more traffic is expected.
A small section of roadworks on Holme Slack Lane continues up until the New Year.
A statement from the county council said: “The left-turn lane from Blackpool Road into Deepdale Retail Park has been widened to allow a cycle lane on the carriageway and to improve the turning movement for traffic.
“There is also a new bus stop and layby to allow better access to the retail park by public transport. The flow of traffic through the junction has been eased with upgraded traffic signals. Additional crossings will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
“The signals at St Gregory Road junction have been updated to improve traffic flow. Pedestrian crossings have also been installed on the junction.”
