Inspiral Carpets will close 53 Degrees to the public with their show on December 21.
Although we recently revealed that limited shows will take place in the Club room of the venue, the fact remains that the vast majority of activity at 53 Degrees will cease.
Clint Boon, XFM DJ and Inspiral Carpets keyboard player, believes the venue can find its feet again.
He said: “It’s sad really, it’s not something to celebrate, is it?
“It’s never nice to see a venue closing down. I’m a believer that if you think positive then maybe someone can take it over and get it moving and it’ll have a good outcome.
“The live music scene just seems to be getting bigger and bigger so I don’t really see any reason why places shouldn’t be getting funding or shouldn’t be making a profit.
“It’s the best time ever for live music as far as I understand. So yeah, we’ll have a great night there and hopefully we’ll be back if it reopens.”
He continued to discuss Preston’s competition as a live music hub from local cities.
“There was a time when a band like us wouldn’t necessarily have done Manchester and Preston on the same tour.
“Now there’s more of a market you can do that, some bands will do Blackburn, Preston, Manchester…Buckley. In the past you’d maybe just do one of those gigs.
“I think it’s in a good location to be honest, it is close to these cities but it still gets the action. If it was down in Cornwall there wouldn’t be a population for it.
“Basically let’s leave Preston where it is.”
