Water services have been restored to Penwortham and southern areas of Preston after nearly nine hours without water at some properties.
AdvertisementUnited Utilities engineers have repaired a leaking water pipe on Leyland Road.
A statement from the firm said: “Our team of engineers has finished repairing the leaking pipe on Leyland Road and the water should be starting to flow normally again.
“However it may take up to two hours for the water pressure to return to normal levels.”
Local residents reported panic buying of bottled water at local supermarkets and stores with many selling out of water.
Temporary traffic lights were put on Leyland Road while the engineers tried to fix the pipe.
Water was diverted from other areas to bring supplies back on at many properties around 6pm but water pressure remained low.
The fault was identified by a United Utilities inspector just after 1pm on Sunday.
