The first step in bringing a Fulwood park back into life has been completed.
AdvertisementLevensgarth Park in Sharoe Green has a new kids play area and it is already being well-used.
Local residents have spent three years trying to get the park upgraded.
Nigel Parker, chairman of Sharoe Green and Sherwood Community Association, welcomed the end of the first phase of work.
He said: “After three years of hard work on the part of a small group of Sharoe Green residents, the new junior play area on Levensgarth Park has now opened and is proving a big success. Upwards of thirty children at a time were playing on the park on its first weekend where previously it would have been a deserted piece of ground.
“With a zip wire, crocodile rope swing, climbing posts and nets plus a trampoline it is a great asset to the community and come the spring when the grass re-grows should prove even more popular. A gyro-spiral and second trampoline will soon be added. The Community Association hopes that when people see what can be done they will volunteer to help bring about an accompanying toddler play area and gardens in due course.”
£43,000 has been spent with the bulk of that money coming from the Lancashire Environmental Fund but the Community Association wants to see more work done.
They are calling on local residents to raise more funds and also join volunteers in keeping the park clean and tidy.
