The annual Santa Dash will see hundreds donning their red and white striped suits.Advertisement
It raises money for the St Catherine’s Hospice and one of their medical staff is swapping her stethoscope for the Santa suit.
Dr Jayne Wilkinson, who works on the in-patient uni at the Lostock Hall Hospice, is one of those signed up for the two mile dash.
She said: “I’ve been running regularly since February, when I took up the ‘couch to 5km challenge’ – going from literally not being able to run for a minute, to the point where I’m now running every day with my Labrador Fettle.
“I thought the Santa Dash was a way of putting my new-found hobby to good use, raising money for the hospice which relies on events like this to generate the funds it needs to be able to deliver its services.
“It’s going to be so much fun seeing everyone dressed up in their costumes and running, walking or jogging around Lostock Hall. It will certainly get people talking which helps raise awareness of the hospice too which is great. I hope lots of people will join me in getting dressed up, having a bit of a giggle and doing something to help others this Christmas.”
The Dash costs £10 for adults and £5 for under 18s, the price includes a Santa suit, beard and hat.
There is also a half-mile Rudolph Rumble for children aged eight and under. Registration is £5 and includes antlers and red noses.
Norman Cutler, senior fundraiser at St Catherine’s Hospice and Santa Dash organiser, said: “We’re delighted to have Jayne signed up for our Santa Dash – she sees first hand each day the difference that the funds raised make to people facing extremely difficult times, at Christmas and throughout the year.
“We guarantee the event will get you in the festive spirit and you’ll certainly help to put a smile on the faces of our festival-goers who will be there to cheer you on. Sign up now and help make this our best Santa Dash yet.”
The event is part of the Christmas Festival which takes place on Sunday 7 December from 12noon to 4pm.
