Update 10pm Sunday: United Utilities report they have restored water supplies
AdvertisementResidents in Penwortham and the south of Preston are without water on Sunday afternoon.
United Utilities said they had identified a leak on Leyland Road and customers in the PR1 and PR4 postcodes are affected.
Many homes in the area, including New Longton, have no water or just a trickle.
Water inspectors were sent out at 1.23pm to investigate the leak.
At 4pm the company said engineers were on site to repair the leak, once it had put temporary traffic management arrangements in place.
A further update at 5.45pm said water was being moved from other areas to try and restore some supply to Penwortham and surrounding areas. But it would be low pressure.
Local residents are reporting the Co-Op in Penwortham has sold out of bottled water.
The repairs are continuing and as of 7.50pm there is still major disruption to the water supply across Penwortham and beyond.
United Utilities say because the repairs are taking longer than expected they have to put more traffic management in place.
At 8.35pm residents in New Longton reported their water had been restored.
A statement from the company said: “We’re sorry for the trouble this may be causing you and we will get your taps flowing normally again as quickly as we can.”
