An Italian restaurant looks set to be allowed a major expansion on the outskirts of Preston.
AdvertisementThe Italian Orchard on Whittingham Lane, Broughton, has applied for permission for a 1,800 square metre extension and new car park.
Preston City Council’s planning officers have recommended the plans for approval.
A hitch may be a section 106 agreement, with Lancashire County Council’s highways department asking for the restaurant to stump up £6,000 towards highways improvements.
The function room within the extension would be able to seat 330 people.
Five new full-time jobs and 30 part-time jobs would be created at the San Marco group restaurant.
A previous application to create a wine bar in 2004 was approved, but it was never constructed.
One local resident has objected to the plans, saying it will increase traffic in the area and have problems with noise pollution from the functions held in the new extension.
The plans are due to be discussed at the city council’s planning committee at the Town Hall on Monday 1 December.
