Preston’s Christmas Lights switch on pulled in a bumper crowd – and has given city centre businesses a bounce according to organisers,
AdvertisementMore than 14,500 people are estimated to have crammed onto the Flag Market and down Friargate for the switch on.
And Preston’s Business Improvement District, who organise the Christmas lights, said traders had reported more people through their doors on the first Saturday and Sunday in the run up to Christmas.
Mark Whittle, of Preston BID, said: “Yet again Preston has put itself alongside the best in the North West for getting the festive period off with a bang.
“This is a crucial time of year for our city centre traders and we are confident the people of Preston, Lancashire and beyond will once again turn out to support them this Christmas.
“Their job is to provide the best products and services they can offer, just as they have done for generations.”
An expanded Christmas Lights, running down Fishergate, Friargate, Church Street and the Flag Market, were switched on by Coronation Street actor Marc Baylis.
They are part of a £125,000 investment from Preston BID in Preston’s Christmas offering – which is to include a Christmas Market on the Flag Market and ice rink.
