Prestonians are being urged to have their say on a new route for the proposed Penwortham bypass.
AdvertisementLancashire County Council is currently consulting on where the road should cut across fields to the south of Penwortham.
A preferred route goes between Broad Oak roundabout and Howick Cross.
The county council say the bypass will reduce congestion in Penwortham along the A59 and encourage more walking and cycling along the A59.
A previous route for the bypass needed the demolition of some houses in the Penwortham area.
The county council’s masterplan for transport in the Preston area includes a new bridge across the River Ribble, which would connect to the Penwortham bypass and the planned Western Distributor which joins at the Docks. The funding would come from the City Deal, which is ploughing hundreds of millions of pounds into huge infrastructure projects in Preston and South Ribble.
A number of consultation events in and around Penwortham have been held to showcase the bypass route.
Comments can be given to the county council via the Penwortham bypass consultation page on the county council website.
