A new way of registering to vote is coming in, the biggest shake up since the Victorian times.

Council officers are going to be at the Acregate Labour Club to explain the changes during the course of Friday.

The new method means everyone is individually registered on the electoral role rather than via a household basis.

Anyone wanting to see if they are registered or register is asked to bring their national insurance number.

Computers are being provided for people to see if they are registered or register online, Prestonians who know those without internet access are urged to bring those people along.

The election roadshow is on from 11am to 4pm on Friday 19 September at the Labour club on Acregate Lane, Ribbleton.

Anyone registering on the day can enter into a free prize draw to win £500 of High Street Shopping vouchers.

Preston City Council has produced a video explaining why registering to vote is important, particularly to ensure you don’t miss out on financial contracts.
