A new supermarket is under construction on Fishergate.
Building work at the new Tesco Express at the railway station end of Fishergate is well underway.
The supermarket giant bought three adjoining properties and is currently knocking through the walls to create the new convenience store.
A smaller Mace convenience shop already exists on Fishergate only a few properties away and Sainsbury’s have announced they will convert the former HSBC bank, on the other side of Fishergate, into a Sainbury’s Local store.
We reported back in April that Tesco had lodged plan to convert the stores and Tesco spokesman Mark Thomas said at the time: “We’re really pleased to have applied for minor works to bring the vacant units on Fishergate back into use as a Tesco Express.
“Our store will help to rejuvenate this end of the high street, provide great convenient shopping for the community and create up to 20 jobs.”
Other Tesco Express stores are located on Church Street and Fraigate in the city centre, plus two on Blackpool Road, one in Fulwood and one in Ribbleton
