A hobbyist shop in Preston has been put on the market.

Transport Models located at Oyston Mill in Preston is well known model and hobby business. It is now up for sale.

It has been in the hands of the present partners for over 5 years, having been established in 1989.

The shop offers an Aladdin’s cave of plastic kits, scale models, all kinds of railway stock and accessories, including the largest collection of plastic toy soldiers in the North West. They also have a huge range of books and magazines covering modelling and military machines.

They have over £400,000 of good quality stock and are popular with collectors and enthusiasts including trade customers.

The business, which is on sale due to retirement, has a thriving e-commerce side through eBay and their website transportmodels.co.uk. They pride themselves on being able to obtain almost every model in every size to be immediately available for purchase.

They are also a Corgi Gold Star stockist centre and an agency for the Tekno range of British Model Trucks.
Of interest to local people are scale model replicas of Preston buses and trams.

The business sellers site states that Transport Models has “an impressive turnover of around £800,000 per annum of which 50% is the on line business. Indeed the potential for further growth on line via other partner websites such as Amazon is enormous.”

Over 13,000 items are listed on the website and over 7000 on the eBay shop site, with a large part of the business is based around the sourcing and reselling of second hand models.”
