Poetry event running for ten years secures partial funding

A Preston muslim society has been given money by the county council to help put on a poetry evening.

The Gujarat Muslim Welfare Society are receiving up to £550 from local county councillors.

The local member grants are applied for to put on a poetry recital social evening in the city.

An application by chairman Mahmud Amirat states: “This is a community cohesion and poetry recital social evening going on for ten years.

“People from Preston particularly black and ethnic minorities attend and enjoy the poems. It is good for health and wellbeing.”

Preston central county councillor Yusuf Motala has contributed £150 and the society has another application for £400 in to Councillor Frank de Molefetta.

The event is due to take place on Saturday 27 September.
