Police are appealing for information as they believe several people were involved in the attack.

A post mortem examination has confirmed Highton died as a result of a wound to the neck caused by a blade.

He also suffered a number of other injuries caused by the blade.

Det Supt Eddie Thistlethwaite, said: “This young man suffered a brutal attack. I believe there were a number of people involved and we are working hard to identify the offenders.

“I would appeal for anyone with any information, however unimportant they feel it may be, to get in touch with us.”

Friends and relatives have been laying flowers and leaving messages at the spot where Jonjo died.

Extra police patrols have been put in place on St Stephen’s Road and the surrounding streets.
