When you’ve signed up for a spot of dragon boat racing you’re not going to let a drop of rain spoil your day. That was certainly the case for hundreds of people from local companies who braved the elements to take part or support their teams in a charity event at Preston Docks on Saturday.
Everyone seemed to be having a good time and there was some hard fought races but the real beneficiaries from this event will be eight local charities. Each of the boats had a crew of up to 21 and a drummer acting as task-master driving them along over the length of the 250 metre course.
Food stalls, attractions for children and information about each of the charities meant that there was something to keep spectators entertained in between races as well.
Among the charities benefitting are:
Derian House Children’s Hospice
Galloways
Rosemere Cancer Foundation
Heartbeat
East Lancs Hospice
The Space Centre
Cancer Help
The Jordan Grant Memorial Foundation
