Police cordon on St Stephen’s Road

A 20-year-old man from Preston has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a stabbing in Deepdale.

Police in Preston say a murder investigation is underway following the incident on St Stephen’s Road.

Around 11.30pm on Saturday police and paramedics arrived at St Stephen’s Road to find a Preston man in his late teens, on the street with serious injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been named locally as 18 year old Jonjo Highton.

A post mortem examination is due to be carried out to establish the exact cause of death but a statement from Lancashire Police says “the man had suffered what appear to be a number of knife wounds.”

Extra police patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure residents and a cordon remains in place.
