Fire crews are investigating the cause of a fire at flats above an Indian restaurant on Plungington Road.
AdvertisementCrews from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the properties above RK Sweets on Sunday evening and saved a cat and a dog from the flats.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “Firefighters from Preston and Fulwood fire stations were called to a fire at the rear of a takeaway on Plungington Street at 20:40 on Sunday evening.
“When crews arrived at the scene, the two occupiers of one of the flats above the takeaway were being helped out of their property by neighbours who had put a ladder up to the front window. The occupiers of the other flat were climbing down the fire escape at the back of the property.
“Firefighters extinguished the fire and rescued a cat and a dog from the flats. The cause of the fire is still being investigated and this will continue on Monday morning. We will be working with police to establish exactly what went on in the time leading up to the fire.”
Plungington Road was closed for more than an hour as the crews tackled the fire.
