Lightning strikes over Preston

Eagle-eyed Prestonians snapped lightning striking across the city during Tuesday afternoon’s thunderstorms.

Heavy rain and thunder hit Preston and Penwortham leading to flash flooding, including in the St George’s Shopping Centre.

Melvin Nicholson snapped the dramatic picture above as the clouds turned a menacing black.

Torrential downpours turned many roads, including Friargate, into a raging torrent.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were called out to deal with a number of incidents, including helping a motorist from their car after it became stuck in floodwater at the Fishergate car park.
