The cafe building is also to include rooms which can be hired out to local businesses and community groups.

Hospice chief executive Stephen Greenhalgh said: “The Mill is a pioneering new concept which will work on several levels.

“As a welcome cafe it will be here for everyone – from business peple networking over coffee, to families tucking into tea and cake, or friends enjoying a lunch together.

“Set in our beautiful grounds newly named as St Catherine’s Park, the Mill will give people a reason to drop by – welcome our community in and giving something back for more than 30 years’ dedicated support of the charity.

“All of the profits will be ploughed back into St Catherine’s Hospice to help us continue to sustain our much-valued services for local people and for future generations.”

The Mill has been funded by a grant from the Department of Health.
