A new gym and discount supermarket could be opening in Fulwood.
AdvertisementMore than 7,000 square metres of land near Oliver’s Place, Sharoe Green, would see a new retailer build a warehouse and store plus a new health and fitness club.
National supermarkets Aldi and Iceland are both said to be interested in the area, along with discount chain B&M Bargains.
The development would create up to 150 jobs and agents Savills who submitted the application on behalf of developers Cassidy and Ashton say it would generate £2.5 million for the local economy.
More than 200 parking spaces would be provided on the retail development, which is at the junction of Eastway and Oliver’s Place.
The Savills report indicates any new supermarket would be expected to compete with the ASDA at Fulwood, but it was unlikely to affect Booths near Royal Preston Hospital.
A planning application has been lodged with Preston City Council and will go to councillors on the planning committee for a decision.
The full planning application can be viewed on the city council website.
