Windrush 66, celebrating 66 years of black presence in the UK.
Windrush Initiatives CIC is a Community Interest Company with an aim to empower and improve outcomes for black/multi-heritage communities and their families within Preston, Lancashire and the United Kingdom.
On 22 June, 66 years ago, the Empire Windrush sailed into the UK, bringing with it one of the first large groups of immigrants from the Caribbean.
On Sunday 22 June 2014, they are holding Windrush 66, a fun filled packed day of entertainment with yummy Caribbean food, loads of stalls and the ‘getting together’ of a fabulous, multi heritage community. Plus a 20/20 cricket match!
Event organiser Adrian Murrell could be heard on Preston FM this afternoon explaining what Windrush was all about. He encouraged everyone to go along and have a good time on Sunday.
