Earlier this week, Preston’s first and only Southern Californian surfer inspired bar, Beachcomber, launched their new summer cocktail menu and we were invited.

We tried a range of their 20 new beach themed cocktails, including a Phil Collins, South Beach Swizzle and BC Colada, which was served in a pineapple.

The menu has been in development for more than 12 weeks and owner, Richard Powell, who also runs the Kuckoo bar next door, told us he believes there is a market for great music and cocktails in Preston.  He explained how he is trying to appeal to the 5 per cent market in Preston who want something different to the norm and don’t want nights based on 2-4-1 deals.

It seems to be working considering he has been able to launch this new brand, create new jobs and stay open for 18 months so far.

“Beachcomber brings a ray of Californian sunshine into Preston’s nightlife and I’m delighted with how we have evolved to create employment opportunities for more than 20 people whilst also building a strong cult following.”

Richard is excited about the new menu, he said: “We’re well known for our unique fusion of distinctive cocktails and indie rock and roll, so we wanted to make sure that those elements stayed true with our new drinks and branding.”
