The location of a proposed new station to serve the west of the city has been shown on council documents.
AdvertisementCottam Parkway is part of the Preston Local Plan which is due to be submitted to the Secretary of State for approval in the coming weeks.
The Local Plan gives details of how the city council sees the city growing during the next decades, including a swathe of housing being built in the West and North West of the city.
Recent funding through the City Deal scheme means hundreds of millions of pounds are being invested in big projects such as the Preston Western Distributor – a new road linking the M55 to the A583 at Riversway.
Alongside the new road there is a proposal to build a new station on the Preston to Blackpool line – Cottam Parkway.
A previous map showed the station being further towards Lea, Ashton and Ingol – just off Tom Benson Way.
A city council spokesman said: “The proposed change reflects the Lancashire County Council Central Lancashire Highways and Transport Masterplan adopted by LCC in March 2013 which shows a station where the new Preston Western Distributor road crosses the Preston-Blackpool railway to form a parkway station.”
Lea councillor Julie Buttle said: “From a local ward perspective, it appears to make more sense to access the station from the new road and hopefully the county council will provide adequate off site parking so that the location can successfully be used as a park and ride.”
