The second floor flat on Royal Drive had a fire in the bedroom around 10pm on Saturday.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service sent a crew from Preston Fire Station to break into the flat and get the woman out.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital suffering effects of smoke.

The bedroom has been destroyed by the fire and there is severe smoke damage to the rest of the flat.

It took fire crews two hours to put out the flames using four sets of breathing apparatus, lighting and break in gear.
