Two people arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 13-month-old boy have been bailed.

The 25-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were arrested on Thursday and questioned by detectives in connection with the death of the toddler.

On Saturday March 22 emergency services were called to an address on Church Street in the city centre at 6.50am.

The toddler, reported to be Aiden Jonathan Gary Cairns by the Lancashire Evening Post, was found not to be breathing, he was taken to Royal Preston Hospital but died.

Lancashire Police said the investigation is continuing and the couple had been bailed pending further enquiries.

A post mortem examination has been carried out but the cause of death has not been discovered.
