A theatre company are calling for help to perform a musical based on the life of Sir Tom Finney.
AdvertisementLEGEND the Tom Finney story was performed in 1996 by the Certain Curtain Theatre and received rave reviews.
The show was performed in the Great Room at Deepdale before popular demand saw it moved to the Charter Theatre.
Sir Tom went to see the show twice and according to those performing he “loved it”.
Claire Moore from the drama group said: “We and Sir Tom got standing ovations.
“He came to see us in the dressing room to tell us how much he’d enjoyed it and to thank us for staging it. He said it had been a great honour.”
Claire said they believe LEGEND is the first full-length musical ever performed about a footballer.
The show was so successful it saw Norman Cave, who played Sir Tom in the show, be part of the group who performed one of the songs during a PNE match against Blackburn Rovers.
One of the numbers from the show was belted out to 15,000 fans in the old Kop, and Sir Tom was in the stands.
Claire said the company would love to perform LEGEND again if they can get the funding.
