It’s all getting very American, but school proms are becoming big business.
AdvertisementSo much so the first ever Preston Prom Show – like one of those wedding fayres – takes place this weekend.
The Preston Marriott Hotel will host the show which showcases what is on offer for all Year 11 leavers.
From dresses, suits, hairstyles and much more there will be over 3,000 school leavers attending a prom at the end of this school year.
The show is the brainchild of Preston pair Tom Cobden and Sarah Burns who are based in Fulwood.
Mr Cobden said: “The event will showcase the very best shops, companies and places to visit for everything the school leaver needs for their special night.
“For one day only, visitors can indulge in fashion, suit design, beauty, hair and accessories. Also students have the opportunity to view amazing, unusual and perhaps outrageous ways to arrive at the biggest party of their lives.”
Miss Junior Preston Molly Hilton will also be at the show.
Tom and Sarah set up the business nine months ago after researching the trend for proms in the UK.
The average parent will spend £415 per child on a school prom.
The prom event runs from 10am to 5pm and is £1.50 to enter, a portion of the money made will go to The Space Centre in Ashton.
