Couple arrested on suspicion of murder after toddler dies

Police investigating the death of a 13-month-old boy in Preston have arrested a couple.

The man leading the investigation has called the death of the toddler on Saturday a “tragic incident”.

Police were called to a flat on Church Street in the city centre at 6.30am after reports that a child at the address was not breathing.

A man and woman, both aged 25, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Det Supt Paul Withers said: “This is a tragic incident where a little boy has lost his life.

“A full investigation is under way to try to establish exactly what has happened.”
