Full planning permission has been lodged by developers to convert the Cotty Brook site into residential units.

The proposal is to build 11 two bedroom houses, 4 one bedroom flats and 2 two bedroom bungalows.

The long vacant Cotty Brook Pub will be demolished as part of the proposals.

The new homes will be owned and managed by New Progress Housing Association and part funded by the Homes and Communities Agency.

The Cotty Brook pub was put on the market but despite a lot of interest the seller did not receive any serious enquiries for the continued use as a public house.

The pub was not considered to be viable option due to its location and long history of poor trading. An alternative use for the building site was needed as the old public house did not easily lend itself to alternative uses without significant expense and redevelopment.

Melrose Developments Ltd are taking the project forward.
