People from across Preston are being invited to gather at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to dance, sing and stand together to demand an end to violence against women as part of a global event.
Globally one in three women experience some form of rape, violence, abuse, harassment in their lifetimes.
On 14 February OneBillionRising is calling on women and men across the planet to use their imagination and power to rise for justice.
OneBillionRising founded by Eve Ensler aims to raise awareness and stand for justice and change so that women and girls can be on this planet without living in fear.
This year the University of central Lancashire Creative communities group have been asked to host the annual OneBillionRising event.
UCLan have allowed the use of the new Sir Tom Finney sports centre situated in the heart of the university campus on 14 February.
The event in Preston hopes to bring as many people as possible to the sports centre to dance and stand together in solidarity on the same day as people from 206 other countries around the world.
The UCLan event will take place from 12noon to 1.00pm. Anyone wishing to take part can contact Russell, Chair of the Creative Communities Group, by emailing Rhogarth1@uclan.ac.uk or calling 01772 894707 or 07940 455714.
The event will be filmed with a five-minute video clip uploaded to the 1 billion rising website in line with all VDay activities across the globe.
