The first Morrisons Local in the city will be opening next week on Blackpool Road next to Ashton Park.
UK’s fourth largest food retailer is building a network of convenience stores – Morrisons M locals – to let customers shop with them on the way home from work or after picking up kids from school.
Morrisons are looking to open new Locals every week with over 100 around the country and the aim is to have more space dedicated to fresh food. The new Preston store will have a hot ‘food to go section’ as well..
The shops will offer goods tailored to the different needs of every community.
They are determined to be a good neighbour so will be partnering with local schools, charities and community groups to help them to raise funds throughout their stores.
Morrisons already has two large supermarkets in the city. Their store at Riversway has been trading for over 27 years. Morrisons also chose Preston as the base for their new experimental ‘warehouse’ store at Ribbleton.
The new Morrison Local is on the site of the former Jags showroom on Blackpool Road just across the road from a smaller convenience store.
Preston Council initially refused planning permission for the site due to being prominently located at a major road junction and the proposed off-street parking within the site inadequate to cater for likely needs.
