Preston City Council put the CCK1 plate onto eBay but it didn’t attract a single bid.

A minimum price of £22,000 had been set.

Councillor Martyn Rawlinson, the man in charge of the council’s resources, said they would now look to sell it at a cheaper price.

He said the Jaguar which takes the Mayor about was bought for £13,000 so they would attempt to raise this amount through selling it.

He said: “We still intend to sell it, but it’s not on eBay any more so we will have to decide how we are going to do it.

“There are other ways of selling it, but that was the most public way and we thought it might get a result.”

The council wanted to sell it to help plug a gap in their finances.
