A new dance studio is being added to Fulwood Leisure Centre.
Prestn City Council has approved £100,000 to be spent creating a mezzanine floor above the squash courts at the centre.
The move follows a new agreement the council put in place with Fulwood Academy which means there is no longer a studio to be used for classes at the Academy.
Councillor Tom Burns, cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “The council’s leisure centres are very popular with the people of Preston and we are happy to invest to improve the facilities on offer.
“The space for a dance studio was badly needed and the new mezzanine floor will do the job perfectly.”
The construction work will be carried out by Manley Construction Ltd who tendered at the lowest price to the council, beating 12 other firms who tendered.
The works will be the first in a number of improvements to council-run leisure centres over the next few years.
