A number of Preston solicitors will be offering a will writing service during November in return for a donation to St Catherine’s Hospice.
The third annual Will Week runs from November 11 to 17 and gives residents a chance to get expert will advice and support a Preston charity.
Michelle Whalley, trusts and legacy officer at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “Many people believe if they don’t have many assets, or if they’re married or are parents, they don’t need a will. The truth is, almost everybody needs a will to stave off unforeseen circumstances and expenses.
“Under the rules of intestacy, when a person dies without leaving a valid will, their property – the estate – must be shared out according to certain rules. Only married or civil partners and some other close relatives can inherit under these rules.”
Solicitors taking part include Forbes, EllenFay, Marsden Rawsthorn and Vincents.
St Catherine’s, on Lostock Lane, has to raise £3.7m a year from charitable donations to meet its running costs for providing care.
Anyone interested in Wills Week should contact Michelle Whalley for an entitlement voucher and information pack. Email michelle.whalley@stcatherines.co.uk or call 01772 629171.
