A community choir have played an impromptu concert on the hard shoulder of the M6.

The One Voice Community Choir, who are appearing on the BBC’s Gospel Choir of the Year on BBC One this evening, got stuck in a traffic jam on their way to the filming.

Instead of spending the six hours they were trapped in their cars, they grouped together and gave a show for other motorists.

A spokeswoman for the Choir said: “This was a strange highlight of our day on way to taking part in finals of the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year competition 2013.

“Typical of our choir. WHat do we do after two hours stuck in stationery traffic? Stretch our legs? Get out and sing of course. Impromptu concert without our musical director who was in a separate vehicle.”

Matthew Dever captured the performance which you can watch below.

The choir will be on Songs of Praise this Sunday at 4.15pm and on Sunday 13 October at 6pm.
