Preston boxer Lisa Whiteside, who is described as one of England’s most exciting prospects, recently became an ambassador for Kukri Sports.
Her many credits and awards include European Union Champion 2013, ABAE Female Boxer of the Year 2012, European silver 2011, World bronze medalist 2012. She is officially ranked no 2 in the World at 57kg.
Lisa, who boxes for Larches and Savick ABC worked as a full-time police officer in Lancashire until June this year when she joined the GB Boxing Programme.
Currently in training for Glasgow next year, Lisa was welcomed as a new Kukri Athlete Ambassadors at their clubhouse in Preston. She forms part of the ‘Kukri family’ in the run up to the Commonwealth Games.
In the video clip she talks about how she loses her nerves once she steps in the ring knowing her opponents will be scared of her!
Lisa is targeting a place in the England team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. However, the absence of her weight category at the big events has forced her to drop down to 51kg. She is facing tough competition in this category from fellow boxer Nicola Adams.
In a recent interview Lisa was asked if she had any advice for women and girls who are considering taking up boxing as a sport? She said: ‘If you are serious about taking up boxing and then possibly competing, you have to be dedicated and put the hard work in at the training stage. The feeling when you win is just amazing and is worth the hard work. I have been boxing for four years and enjoyed every minute with great support along the way.’
