Next Tuesday will see author John Claridge launch his new book about the Ribble Steam Railway in Preston. John will also give presentation and talk.
John Claridge is a major force in international advertising photography. He is also very highly regarded for his editorial and portraiture work, some of which hangs in the National Portrait Gallery.
Claridge has been presented with over 700 awards, and is currently one of three nominated for the Association of Photographers Lifetime Achievement Award.
An East End lad he left school at just 15, then talked his way into his first job in photography. By the age of nineteen he had his own studio in London and at 23 he was driving his own E-type Jaguar. He is said to be ‘ a man of the world, whose influence will be transmitted to future generations of photographers.’
Throughout his life, Claridge has shot a vast amount of what might now be classed as social documentary photographs.
Craig Atkinson, invited John to Preston to create a new body, leaving the subject and specific location to him. He chose the Ribble Steam Railway based at the Docklands in Preston.
John will discuss both his new work along with his older documentary work from London’s East End and then present his new limited edition book, Ribble Steam Railway, published by Café Royal Books.
A great chance to hear John discuss his work.
John also has another limited edition book available through Café Royal Books called Vintage London
