They’re creepy and they’re kooky, altogether spooky, pass the cushion mother, Evil Blizzard are here. Preston’s merchants of the macabre will be soundtracking a sinister silent short film on the Harris Flights this week. The band, favourites of Fall frontman Mark E Smith, will be peddling their hypnotic bass driven fury on the evening of Friday 13th. Lisa McManus spoke to one of the three mysterious bass players to find out more.
Who are you and what do you play?
My name is Filthydirty. I cannot give my true identity for parole violation reasons. I play bass #3, keyboards, small baby doll heads and am chief line dancer.
Your masks look pretty sinister. What lies beneath?
Under the mask is a hideous, deformed bald old man who lacks several limbs, basic knowledge of personal hygiene and most moral standards. I possess the power of flight and can cause earthquakes through the medium of mime.
I hear Mark E Smith loves Evil Blizzard. How did your paths cross?
Mark E Smith happened upon us while we were crossing the Andes after another bungled bank job: he runs a nice macro biotic tapas bar up there. Or we met him in the pub, I forget which.
Describe your sound in a sentence (or two!).
Evil Blizzard sound like a bad day in hell. We pride ourselves on spending more time and effort on our costumes than on songwriting, which is blatantly obvious to anyone that’s ever heard us.
What should we expect when you play the Harris Flights?
When we play the Harris, expect the police being called, drunk people crying, the parched pea man being exposed as the Demi god of Ktulu and lots of sub Black Sabbath riffs. And that’s just in the first song. If we fail to deliver on any of those promises, we guarantee your entry fee being refunded.
Evil Blizzard play the Harris Flights, Preston on Friday 13th September 2013. At approx. 9.50 – 10.50pm. Click here for a full programme of film screenings over the weekend.
