A man has been jailed for historical sex offences against a young boy in Preston.
AdvertisementJoseph Bolger, now 21, has been found guilty of six counts of rape for incidents which took place in the city between May 2004 and February 2006 when he was 15.
The victim was aged between five and seven years old at the time of the offences.
Bolger was sentenced by Preston Crown Court to eight years imprisonment.
DS Chris McCreadie said: “I am pleased with the custodial sentence passed to Joseph Bolger following the horrific ordeal that his victim suffered, especially as he has shown no remorse for his behaviour.
“The victim’s welfare in this case, particularly because of his age, was of paramount importance to us. An Independent Sexual Violence Advisor and a dedicated police officer provided support to both the victim and his family throughout the investigation and court process.
“The victim has been traumatised by the horrendous ordeal he endured, but he has shown tremendous courage throughout the case and I hope the conviction brings him and his family some form of closure so that they can all move on with their lives.
“We investigate any reports of sexual assaults thoroughly and will do everything we can to identify those responsible and bring them to justice, especially in a case involving children.”
