A new shisha cafe in a former Preston pub is applying to serve late night refreshments.
AdvertisementMarina Shisha and Grill on Fylde Road, Ashton, formerly the Fylde Tavern, faces objections from the council’s environmental health committee.
The Marina wish to serve food and non-alcoholic drinks until 1am on Sundays to Fridays and until 2am on Saturdays.
Music will be played at the venue until 1am on Sundays to Fridays and 2am on Saturdays.
The owners say no alcohol will be allowed on the premises and the music will be background recorded music only.
A letter from Ian Massey, senior environmental health officer, states they have concerns over the lack of CCTV provision at the venue and the smoking shelter not meeting regulations.
Rock Denim Limited, based on Egerton Road, Preston, say they will work with council officers to install compliant CCTV and smoking shelters.
They say the cafe is there “for the public to meet and socialise, to smoke sheesha, eat and drink”.
The Fylde Tavern is just one of a number of pubs which are being turned into shisha cafes, with the New Ship Inn on Watery Lane approved for conversation in January this year.
The proposals will be heard at the Town Hall on Wednesday 19 June at 10am.
