On the run prisoner Brian Lynch has been captured on CCTV just moments after he went missing.
CCTV pictures show Lynch waiting at a bus stop on Lancaster Road and moments later getting on a bus before deciding to get off.
Detectives have revealed there have been 15 reported sightings of the 44-year-old who was jailed for life for murder in 1988.
He was on day release from Kirkham prison on Thursday 7 March in the city centre when he absconded.
A further confirmed sighting of Lynch was on Thursday at around 5.15pm when he was sighted on Stanley Grove in Penwortham walking along a footpath towards Blashaw Lane.
Two unconfirmed sightings place Lynch in Poulton on Saturday lunchtime and another outside St John’s Church in Preston.
etective Chief Inspector Andy Gilbert said; “The last confirmed sighting of Lynch is in Penwortham on Thursday, the day he went missing, however a possible sighting of him in Poulton does mean he could have left the Preston area so I’d like to reinforce our appeal and urge people all over the county to be vigilant.
“If anyone thinks there is the slightest possibility that they have seen a man who may match his description, I would urge them to contact us immediately.
“The longer he is away from prison, the stronger the possibility he could become a higher risk to the public.
“Lynch has little money on him and has been in prison since he was 19 years old so will not be familiar with any of his surroundings and may approach people and ask for money or directions.
“I want to reassure people that we have a team of officers dedicated to finding Lynch and who will be following up every single lead or sighting of him so I would ask anyone who thinks they have seen him to call us.
“Although he could still be in Lancashire, we do still believe there is a possibility he may be trying to travel back to the Greater Manchester area from where he originates and so we would ask the public to be vigilant and report any sightings to the police – any details the public may have could be crucial.”
Any immediate sightings of Lynch should be passed to Lancashire Police on 999. Information can also be passed in person or by dialling 101.
Information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
