Plans have been submitted to Preston City Council to change what the former Ashton Sun Centre can be used for.

The building is currently permitted only for retail but documents submitted to council planners say it’s proving hard to let.

A statement by Jones & Company writes: “The last use of the site was (A1) and traded as Ashton Sun Centre which has recently closed due to the lack of business and the Landlord has been unable to secure any other suitable Tenant despite being marketed by a reputable local Agent who has confirmed that there has been no interest in the current use class.”

The agents write the opening hours of the building would become 4pm to 11pm for any hot food takeaway in operation.

The Sun Centre was open 10am to 10pm on Monday to Saturday and 11am to 9pm on Sundays.

The documents reveal there are no plans to turn the first floor of the building into a flat.

Anyone wishing to comment on the application by Jones & Co should visit the council website to view the plans.

Comments can be submitted via the website or by emailing [email protected] and quoting reference number 06/2013/0075 by Friday 8 March.
