Preston residents have been warned to expect noise and disruption due to rail track improvement works over the weekend.
Network Rail has sent out letters to Preston households informing them that they need to undertake essential improvement works. They state that the improvements are vital to their strategy to provide a safe, reliable and efficient railway.
The letter states that maintenance work involving lubricating fishplates and rail adjustying (sic) with lighting generator rigs, hammers and heavy Road Railer vehicles will take place on Sunday 24 February between half past 12 at night and 7:50 in the morning.
They also state that ‘Safety is our number one priority and for this reason work of this type must be carried out at night while trains are not running….Unfortunately, this means carrying out a lot of our improvements during the night…The equipment we use means some disturbance is unavoidable, but we will make every effort to minimise any unnecessary noise.’
Network Rail appologise for any inconvenience the essential works may cause.
So, if you are rudely awoken early Sunday morning by the sound of machine hammers, bangs, whistles and workmen swearing (possibly) you can thank Blog Preston for warning you!
